About the studio

lakadharas. One who works with wood.

The name comes from a Sanskrit root. It means exactly what it sounds like — someone who shapes wood. We named the studio after the work, not the brand. The work comes first.

The studio

Precision tools, handmade results.

lakadharas is a small-batch woodworking studio based in Caledon. We use a CNC router as our primary tool — not because it removes the maker from the work, but because it gives us a level of precision that makes the finished piece better.

Every piece goes through the same path: a conversation about what it needs to do, a design process, careful material selection, machining, and a hand-finishing stage that is entirely separate from the machine work. The machine does not finish pieces. We do.

We keep the operation intentionally small. We do not scale beyond what we can do well. That means every commission gets full attention, every piece gets inspected before it leaves, and every customer knows exactly what they ordered before production begins.

Our tools

Built for precision at every stage.

The tools we use are not decorative. They are chosen for what they make possible — and for how they affect the quality of the finished piece.

CNC Router

Shapeoko Pro 5

Our primary machining platform. The Shapeoko Pro 5 delivers consistent results across hardwoods — precise toolpaths, minimal deflection, and the rigidity to run fine detail passes without compromise.

CAD/CAM Software

Carbide Create Pro

Used for all 2D profiles, pockets, and V-carve toolpaths. Carbide Create Pro gives us direct control over every cut parameter — depth, feed rate, stepover, and entry strategy.

3D Design

Blender

For relief work, decorative panels, and sculptural elements. Blender lets us model depth variation in three dimensions before generating toolpaths — giving pieces that sense of light and shadow that flat carving cannot.

What we stand for

Four things we will not compromise on.

Precision

CNC routing holds tolerances that hand tools cannot reliably reproduce. We use that precision to serve the design — not to replace craft, but to guarantee it.

Quality

Premium materials, chosen board by board. No shortcuts on finish. No pieces that leave the studio with a flaw we noticed and ignored.

Intentionality

We make a small number of pieces. Every design decision — material, proportion, finish — is deliberate. Nothing in production is there by accident.

Care

We care how pieces arrive, how they are used, and how they age. That means thoughtful packaging, clear care instructions, and honesty about what each material needs.
